This is the saddest, most disturbing book I have read in a long time. It's the story of a girl named Alice. She has been Alice for five years. Before her, there was another Alice. That Alice is gone now, her body washed up in the river. Both girls were abducted by a man named Ray when they were just young girls. Too afraid to escape him, afraid he would kill their families as promised. Forced to do unspeakable things with him, to him. Alice has a short shelf life. Once she gets too old, she knows Ray will cast her aside, just like he did to the last girl. But Ray has given her an opportunity to find the next girl, the new girl. The girl that will take Alice's place, will free her from her suffering. This book is not for everyone. It is the kind of book that sticks with you, even when you put it down. It is terrifying, because as you read it, you know that somewhere out there is a girl just like Alice, and a man just like Ray.
